Visa Fraud Alert: Hope Oceania Churches
Did you know the term “rice bag Christian” or “rice Christian” did not originate in India, coined by so-called “evil” Hindutva types? No, it actually originated with one William Dampier, a British explorer and pirate, who observed natives of east and southeast Asia. He famously said “alms of rice have converted more than their [the missionaries] preaching”. Many Chinese converted, either in the mainland (before the rise of Mao Zedong and Chinese Communism) or when they migrated to Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. The book, and the movie, Crazy Rich Asians is centered around those Chinese that converted to Christianity however many years ago and have taken up English names. Many of those converted Chinese have now emigrated to Australia, which is where Hope Oceania Churches is based:
We have caught HOPE OCEANIA church, a church led by Chinese Christian converts. How sad. The old Confucian ideals of ancient Chinese civilization have been lost due to Xtianity and later Maoism. The term Rice Christian came from missionaries in East Asia pic.twitter.com/FKlGq8rWN9

Hope Oceania Churches is a network of churches, with locations all over Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane. It also has an affiliated church in Auckland, New Zealand. The head pastor is Wilson Lim, who is of Malaysian origin. His wife Lai Ling Lim is part of the organisation as well. It was formed in the early 1990s, when Mr. Lim and his wife left Melbourne to start a church first in Brisbane.
Mr. Lim has made multiple visits to India since 2015. In this report he filed, he was in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and wrote about “miraculous” faith healings. One of the pastors who was with him was one Pastor Ravi Sundar.

Mr. Sundar has also hosted other members of the Brisbane Hope Church location. They visited India in 2018:
In 2018, Mr. Lim went on a medical mission trip, even though no one in the group has any medical training. Faith healing is not a proper medical discipline:
In this report from a pastor’s training held by Mr. Lim and Hope Church in Brisbane, he presents more fraudulent stories of healings:
1. Lady with Knee problem
2. Lady with bad eyesight and stomach and leg problems.
3. Lady with lung disease – was in hospital for 8 days. Came out of hospital to come to church for prayer. All fully healed.
4. Lady’s daughter testified that her headaches (which she had for years) were healed last year and hasn’t returned since.
Whatever visa these people hold in India, they are in violation of the terms and conditions of the visa. If they hold a missionary visa, visa holders cannot use it for proselytizing and can only join a missionary organization APPROVED by the government of India. In order to be approved by the government of India to operate within the country, an organization must receive a certificate indicating it is compliant with the Foreign Contributions Regulatory Act. If they hold a tourist visa, they can only use it for non-business purposes, such as tourism or visiting family and friends.

Once again, we humbly request you also file a complaint as an individual; you can do so at this link. We will be regularly updating you on the complaints we file against Christian organizations that subvert Indian laws to further their aims, and we ask you to do your part. We also humbly request you like this post, and share this post with friends and family. Let them know what missionaries are doing. Remember, complaints are listened to by the government, more than social media posts. Your complaints will help in getting FCRA certificates cancelled and these organizations permanently blacklisted!
We published a guide to filing complaints, which you can view HERE. You have a lot more power than you think you do; even missionaries are starting to take notice and they are getting worried.
Jai Maa Kaali!
